Femininity by Cristina Miraldi

Cristina Miraldi – Milan based womenswear designer who had a strong artistic background before she came into fashion industry as a creator. Cristina spent her childhood at her family embroidery workshop where various games formed designer’s sense for beauty. After her studies and work experience for many worldwide known companies Cristina Miraldi settled her own label at 2009.

The main focus in minimal and simple, but still elegant and smart clothes is kept for details, which highlights the comfortable and soft shapes. The palette of light and calm colours gives a fragile impression of softness and freshness. Meticulous and impulsive at the same time - concept of new womanhood is created.

 Cristina Miraldi
- Describe yourself as a designer and as a person.
What are the main differences between these descriptions?
- As a designer I am very precise, methodical and reflective whereas I am a curious impulsive and diverted person. My collection is a precise reflection of my personality with all its shades and contradictions.

- If you remember what was your first made item you were proud of?
- A multi layered organza dress with Swarovski embroidery which was inspired by Marie Antoinette.

- What where your very first steps to get into fashion industry?
- I grew up in the family embroidery business. Then I followed art and music studies, which helped me to acquaint fashion according to a sense of beauty, thus I decided to get closer to it. I therefore started studying fashion design and specialised in cool hunting. After three years working as a consultant for several internationally known companies I came to understand it was time for me to start up with my own collection in order to express myself to the best of my capabilities.

- Why did you choose to create womenswear?
- My idea is to create a meticulous and at the same time impulsive femininity. I didn’t choose it myself, it just came along in a absolutely intuitive and automatic way.

- Do you have some special rituals before you start to create?
- I do research a lot when it comes to volumes, cuts fabrics and colours. Because of its order I am able to express my moods on a white canvas.

- What is your relationship with minimalism?
- Minimalism is simply the sensible perception of the imperceptible.

- Your clothes are inspired by poetry and fantasy.
What story could be told, if your clothes could speak?
- A different story every season, sometimes many stories all together; moments, instants of life; there are beautiful things which will last the space of a moment.
I try evocating shapes, emotions and existential states through my clothes.

- Where do you seek for inspiration?
- From family pictures of the past generations, from arts, design, music, from the reading of a book or a thought. Sometimes from journeys, from the street, from the people surrounding me, or even a sound or a colour.

- What are the basic values for you as for designer?
- There are very few values able to distinguish a designer. Other than talents, bravery, humility and the capacity of believing in what you do.

- You are based in Italy. Are Italian style and culture influence your expression?
- A lot, even though is not such a keen influence; it is always under the influence of styles and culture of the world surrounding us.

- Do you feel that you need to mach and fight to get everyone’s attention?
- I believe that hard work, continuous study, many renounces as well as the improvement and the growth of the product will lead to the well deserved attention sooner or later.

- If you can name it what is the biggest achievement in your career?
- 2009 it was the turning point year to me. That’s when I decided to register the trademark and start up with my own collection. During the same year I had my Spring Summer collection 2010 show in Tokyo first and then Milan during the fashion week.

- Plans and visions for future, dream collaborations and hopes?
- I am not good planner and I take whatever it comes trying to get the best of it, but I also have strong goals that I try to accomplish day by day with the awareness that it will take time and a lot of work to fulfil them all.
